Hurricane Recovery on Kauai: Giving Back to the Place We Call Home

6 min read

Hurricane recovery on Kauai is about more than what happens after the storm. It’s about coming together, caring for our neighbors, and showing love to the island we call home. On September 7, 2026, Hurricane Lowell, a Category 2 hurricane, struck Kauai and our neighboring island of Niihau. We’re grateful that our team is safe, and our hearts are with our families, friends, neighbors, wedding vendor, venue ohana, and everyone affected.

As wedding planners who live and work on Kauai, this island is so much more than where we do business. It’s our home, our community, and the place where we have the joy of helping couples begin a new chapter together. That’s why we want to do what we can to support our community as we move forward.

We also want our couples planning a 2026 Kauai wedding to know that you and your loved ones are welcome here. We know how much love and care you’ve put into choosing Kauai and planning your celebration. As our island continues its hurricane recovery, there are ways to give back, support our local community, and continue showing love to this special place.

What Happened on Kauai During Hurricane Lowell?

On the evening of September 7, 2026, Hurricane Lowell made landfall on Kauai and Niihau as a Category 2 hurricane. For those of us who call Kauai home, this was a hard time. We care deeply about our island and the people who make it such a special place to live.

When a storm affects our community, our thoughts go to the people around us. We think about our families, our neighbors, our friends, and the local businesses that are part of our daily lives.

We also think about our wedding vendor and venue ohana. These are the people we work with to bring our couples' wedding dreams to life. They're more than the people we work with. They're our friends and part of the community we love.

We're so grateful that our team is safe following Hurricane Lowell. At the same time, our hearts are with everyone affected.

Hurricane recovery takes time, and each person may face different needs along the way. Some may need help right away, while others may need support in the weeks and months ahead. As we move forward, we want to do what we can to help our island heal.

Hurricane Recovery on Kauai: Coming Together as a Community

One of the things we love most about Kauai is how our community cares for one another. When times get hard, even small acts of kindness can make a difference.

For us at Lotus Events & Weddings, giving back has always been close to our hearts. We believe love goes beyond the wedding day. It’s also about caring for our families, friends, neighbors, and the island we call home.

Over the years, we’ve found many ways to give back, including:

  • Supporting our local community: We make time throughout the year to help the people and organizations that make Kauai so special.

  • Giving back to the next generation: Through our work with The Bridge, we support Kauai high school students as they prepare for college.

  • Helping communities in times of need: We’ve supported relief efforts for communities across Hawaii when they’ve needed extra love and care.

  • Supporting hurricane recovery: As Kauai moves forward after Hurricane Lowell, we want to keep that same spirit of giving alive.

  • Finding simple ways to help: Giving back can mean donating, sharing helpful resources, supporting a local business, or offering your time.

You don’t have to give in the same way as someone else. What matters is finding a way to help that feels right for you. When we care for one another, we help keep our Kauai community strong.

Ways You Can Give Back and Support Kauai's Hurricane Recovery

If you’ve been wondering how you can help Kauai after Hurricane Lowell, there are several ways to show your support. We’ve shared four organizations on our Giving Back page for those who would like to donate.

Here are a few ways you can support Kauai’s hurricane recovery:

  • Hawaii Community Foundation: The Stronger Hawaii Fund helps Hawaii communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters. Learn more about the Stronger Hawaii Fund and choose how you’d like to help.

  • Hawaii Mutual Aid Network: If you’d like to help a family, farm, or local business directly, you can look through its shared list of needs and choose where you’d like to give. View the Hawaii Mutual Aid Network donation list.

  • Malama Kauai: This local nonprofit supports Kauai’s food system, farmers, and community. Its work helps connect people with local food while supporting those who grow it. You can donate to Malama Kauai.

  • Lahui Foundation: This nonprofit supports communities across Hawaii, focusing on people who may not have easy access to help. Learn more about the Lahui Foundation and its work.

Before you give, we encourage you to visit each organization’s website and check its current needs. Whether you can give a little or a lot, thank you for thinking of our island and the people who call Kauai home.

Supporting Kauai by Supporting Our Local Businesses

Giving back doesn't always have to mean making a donation.

Another way to support Kauai is by choosing to shop, eat, and spend time with our local businesses.

Our island is home to so many people who put their hearts into what they do. From small shops and restaurants to farmers, artists, and wedding vendors, these businesses are part of what makes Kauai feel like home. When you choose to support them, you're supporting the people behind each business.

For our couples planning a Kauai wedding, this can be part of your wedding journey, too. You can choose local vendors, shop for gifts from island businesses, and invite your guests to enjoy local food and shops during their stay.

You can also share the names of businesses you love with your family and friends. Of course, hurricane recovery looks different for everyone. Before visiting a business or making plans, check whether it's open and ready to welcome guests.

We want our couples to enjoy all that Kauai has to offer while also caring for the people who live here.

Your wedding is a celebration of love, and supporting our local community is another way to share that love.

To Our Couples Planning a 2026 Kauai Wedding, You're Welcome Here

To our couples who have chosen Kauai to begin their next chapter, we want to share a message of love, care, and aloha. We know you chose Kauai intentionally.

This island holds a special place in your heart. You've invited your closest family and friends not only to witness your marriage but also to enjoy the beauty, warmth, and spirit of a place that means so much to you.

We also know news of Hurricane Lowell may have raised questions about your wedding plans. You may be wondering what this means for your wedding day, your guests, or your time on the island.

As your Kauai wedding planning team, we want you to know that we're here to help you work through those questions. If you already have a wedding booked for 2026, please stay in touch with us as your date gets closer. We'll work with you and your wedding vendors to review your plans and share updates that may affect your celebration.

We also encourage you and your guests to check current travel updates before your trip. Our goal is to help you feel informed and cared for as you prepare for your wedding. And when it's time to celebrate, we want you to enjoy the moments that brought you here in the first place.

The joy of seeing your loved ones together. The sound of the ocean. The feeling of standing beside the person you love as you begin your next chapter. These are the moments we love helping you create.

Your wedding means so much to us, and we're grateful that you've chosen to share it with our island.

Giving Back and Coming Back to the Island We Call Home

As Kauai continues its hurricane recovery, we want to thank everyone who has reached out, shared kind words, and looked for ways to help. Your care means so much to our team and our community. If you've been thinking about giving back, we invite you to explore the organizations we've shared and find a way to support our island.

And if you're one of our couples with a wedding planned for 2026, we look forward to helping you celebrate your love here on Kauai. We believe that love is something we share through our actions. It's in the way we care for our neighbors, support our friends, and show up for the people who need us.

It's also in the way we welcome others into our lives and share the places that mean so much to us. As we move forward, we'll continue to support our community and do what we can to help Kauai through hurricane recovery. Thank you for loving our island, caring for our people, and being part of our Lotus Events & Weddings ohana.

If you have questions about your upcoming Kauai wedding, please reach out to our team. We'd love to hear from you and help you with your plans. We can't wait to welcome you back to the place we call home.

With Love & Aloha Always, Lisa & the Lotus Events & Weddings Team
